Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation, briefly Tekes, arranged an event oriented for enterprises exploiting the benefits of mobile solutions in Hanasaari, Espoo on February 10, 2009. The event, labelled Mobile Field Work, was a part of a value added mobile solutions program, VAMOS. The program coordinator, PROFict Partners wanted to utilize existing mobile solutions also for participant communication. The tool selected for the task was Wireless Poll, Widisys' self service tool for text-messaging based polls.

VAMOS focuses on implementing wireless technology solutions widely regardless of business area. Selected areas are industry, transportation, construction and services. Its specific goal is to improve productivity of the enterprises using mobile solutions. Mobile Field Work event provided the participants with interesting case stories on successfully improved work flow control. For example, a cleaning company estimated the cost savings related to automated billing procedure alone to pile up to 150 k€ annually. A maintenance company case, in turn, resulted in decreased management activities and increased number of chargeable tasks carried out per employee.

In addition to successful sample cases, also the keynote speakers, Minister of Economic Affairs, Mr Mauri Pekkarinen and a long-term CEO of Accenture Finland, Mr Markku Silén recruited an impressive number of registrations to the event.

Summarizes Ms Sari Lehtinen, Communications Coordinator of PROFict and responsible for organizing the event: ”We wanted to utilize the latest tools to ensure the registered participants also show up; and to prompt them for additional information right after the event. The user interface of Wireless Poll enabled preparing and sending efficient text message polls easily and fast. Also the participants found it easy to respond to the questions, and I'm sure the system gave them also new ideas for their own business.”
